At Tockwith Church of England Primary Academy we believe it is essential to educate the whole child in Spirituality, providing opportunities to be still and reflect, to explore your own spirituality and to respect others’ spirituality.  Spirituality enables us to become aware of God, of one another, the world around us and ourselves. It enables our children to be happy, flourish and live life in all its fullness (John 10:10)

There are a range of opportunities for children to develop their spirituality at Tockwith Church of England Primary.  These include daily collective worship, reflection tasks linked to worship and a broad curriculum.  We have a spirituality pod where children can spend quiet time reflecting on their thoughts and engaging in reflection activities.  We also have a reflection garden where pupils can spend quiet time away from the busyness of the playground, somewhere they can reflect on their positive experiences and also think about mistakes made and how not to repeat them.

Windows are for looking out onto the world and becoming aware of its wonders, both the ‘wows’ and ‘ows’; things that are ‘awe-full’ and make us wonder and be grateful and things that are ‘awful’ and make us wonder and ask questions.

Mirrors are for looking into and reflecting, alone and together, to see things more clearly, for thinking and asking important questions, learning from our own and each other’s responses.

Doors are for looking through in order to then act or express this in some way in response; for moving on, making choices, and doing something creative, active and purposeful in response.

The Windows, Mirrors and doors methodology is. Incorporated into the curriculum and foundation subjects.

Children encounter a range of opportunities, within and outside of collective worship, to develop their own spiritual journey. A variety of opportunities are included throughout the curriculum, whereby we encourage our pupils to reflect and consider their own actions in a number of different ways.

Children are exposed to a wide variety of spiritual and deep questions, within worship and the curriculum, enabling them to think about their place in the world and to think beyond themselves about challenging concepts.  Beyond, others, world and beauty and self with the phrase from the parable of the mustard seed is in the hall but also displayed in every classroom. This is discussed with the children  in all that they do.
