The KS1 and EYFS team were pleased to be able to open the classroom doors and welcome parents in to watch phonics and reading in action. We appreciate how valuable these sessions are in sharing how we support your child in school and the importance of working in partnership. As you will have seen the sessions are pacey and interactive with sounds being introduced or revised, and then applied through reading and writing activities.

We hope that the session afterwards was informative and enabled you to find out about the phonics programme. The school has invested in the Little Wandle programme with its resources including access to online books; you can also access these through the ECollins book links we have shared. Books are tailored to meet the phonic level of your child and provide resources you can also use at home to revise phonic knowledge and development of comprehension skills. There are lots of great resources for parents on the Little Wandle website, https://www.littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk/resources/for-parents/

It is an important partnership and the short, daily bursts you provide your child really does help them..

Thank you for your continued support.  The presentation shared during the phonics session can be found here.  Some comments from parents who attended the session are below:

It was an absolute delights to see what the children get up too and to see mrs Williamson teaching. I think I speak for all of the year two parents that attended that we were all so very excited to finally be invited into the school, as for most of us, this is the first time we have been able to do this with covid over the last two years. Thank you for inviting us and making us feel so welcome!

A really enjoyable session to watch. The children were fully engaged and focused on the task and knew exactly what was expected. Taught in a fun way using different skills (reading, writing, talking). They were very focused on Miss Cunningham who was very encouraging and positive. Thanks for letting us see the phonics lesson in action, lovely to see the children learning and how phonics is taught.
