Tockwith visited York Minster at the end of January and had a guided tour of the Minster, visited the Undercroft and crypt and learnt about the history and archaeology of York Minster. The children discovered how the Minster has changed over the centuries, learnt about the disastrous fires of the 19th and 20th centuries and viewed the amazing stained glass windows The Undercroft and Crypt showed the children the 1000 year old York Gospels and enabled them to experience worship in the candle lit crypt. There was also the opportunity for the children to dress in the vestments worn by the clergy, see how the Minster developed from a small wooden Anglo Saxon church and took part in hands on activities to learn about how York Minster was built. This was an amazing experience for our children and enabled them to feel welcome in their cathedral and understand more about their place in the York Diocese.
