5* Hygiene Rating

In previous years, our catering has been carried out via a contract with North Yorkshire. Due to price increases and food quality, we took the decision to bring our catering in-house, as of September 2018. This means that our chef, Mrs Hobson, now sources all of the food from local businesses, which cuts down on the distance the food travels. Mrs Hobson is also responsible for selecting the recipes and completing all of the relevant paperwork, as well as keeping the kitchen to a high standard of cleanliness.

Last week, we had an unscheduled kitchen inspection. I’m delighted to share that we received the highest possible standard in this inspection, a 5 * Hygiene Rating!   Ratings are a snapshot of the standards of food hygiene found at the time of inspection.  At the inspection, the officer checked the following three elements:

– how hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored

– the physical condition of the business –including cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation, pest control and other facilities

– how the business manages ways of keeping food safe, looking at processes, training and systems to ensure good hygiene is maintained. The officer can then assess the level of confidence in standards being maintained in the future

The hygiene rating is displayed on the main doors as you enter the school.
