Year 3 and 4 experienced the Romans in real life this week when they visited a Roman Fort at the Danelaw Centre at Murton Park as part of their project on the Ancient Romans. The children started the day as lowly Roman peasants living in a Roman village and experienced working in the jobs of that time. The peasants were then recruited into the Roman Army where they trained to be a soldier, practicing to use the shield / spear and other weaponry and learnt various battle formations before going on guard duty.  There were various craft activities in the afternoon such as pottery.

An amazing day was had by all, even despite the sometimes rainy conditions.  Roman soldiers had to work in all conditions, and so did our children!
