World Maths Day!

Tockwith Primary Academy celebrated World Maths Day in several different ways.  Children in Y5 went to York St John university and worked with academics and trainee teachers – taking part in a range of interactive, problem solving activities. As part of the day the children enjoyed a tour of the historic campus and received a certificate for taking part. As well as taking part in the activities, the day provided a great opportunity to explore and nurture future academic opportunities and aspirations.  The children also bumped into our old Y2 teacher Mr Skidmore!  What a blast from the past!

Back at school children celebrated Maths in a variety of ways, from making structures out of tooth pics and marshmallows to counting with sticks and stones.  Activities also included measuring differnet things around school, working with shapes and taking part in an escape room activity – lots of fun!

We’ve also launched a Maths competition – we want photographs of any weird and wonderful maths inspired activities that children are involved in.  Please share the photographs to seesaw by the 16th April.
