Year 4 – Tockwith Church of England Primary Academy

Y4 Residential

32 children from Y4 went on their residential this week! Excited parents and carers brought excited children into school on Wednedsay morning and waved thm off on their journey. Tockwith arrived at the Wilderness Company campsite and settled straight in to their tents. An afternoon walk in the good weather was followed by rock climbing and abseiling! What a start to this residential!

After an evening meal, an evening activity and hot chocolate and marshmallows, the children settled into their tents and had the best night sleep ever of any Y4 residential! The teachers were delighted.

Day 2 included a morning of archery and crate stacking for one group whilst the other group had fun on the lake on giant stand up paddleboards! After a delicious lunch the groups swapped over and had a go at the other activities. Although it rained, that didn’t bother our fantastic children as they were already getting wet in the lake.

The children are enjoying their last day there now and will be back home this afternoon.

Massive thanks to Miss Stanton, Mrs Maclennan, Mrs Slack and Miss Rawcliffe for taking the children on this fantastic experience, and to Mrs Williamson who made a suprise appearance!

Y4 Trip to Solar Farm

Children in year 4 spent the day learning about solar energy in a workshop and the impact of building a solar farm in a nearby area. The workshop allowed the children to explore the use of solar cells and where the best site on school would be to place them. In the afternoon, they headed to a farm near Hessay where a solar farm is going to be built. A large focus of the project is looking after nature and the wildlife. We explored the undergrowth and looked for the animals which call it home! Many thanks to the Earth Energy Education team for coming to school and teaching us about solar power and welcoming us to their site to see where their development will take place.

Y3/4 Ancient Green Day

On the last day of term, children from Team Santon, Team Finan and Team Berry took part in an Ancient Greece themed day. Children were invited to come to school dressed as an Ancient Greek person.

The morning started with a welcome talk, followed by an artefact workshop. After break, the children had a banner making session where they created banners and chants ready for the afternoon. In the afternoon, the children took part in a mini Ancient Greece Olympics. Events such as javelin, long jump, sprinting and discus were enjoyed by all,

CPR Lessons

Whilst children in year 3 are out at Tadcaster Swimming pool each week learning to swim, our year 4 children are looking at different elements of water safty. Last week they were looking at what to do if someone needs CPR. They learnt to check the scene first to make sure they aren’t putting themselves in any danger, then to check the casualty to make sure they aren’t just having a nap! After that they learnt to alert the emergency services by calling 999 and then what to do with the casualty. This included chest compression, rescue breaths and the recovery position. Many thanks to Mr Goodacre for teaching the children this important skill.

KS2 Tockwith Variety Performance

This week we held our KS2 Tockwith Variety Performance, and what a performance was! From Y5’s ’12 Days of Tockwith’ to poetry and dance, it was an amazing Christmas concert. The children put on an incredible performance and the parents even joined in too! It was typical Tockwith—children shone, teachers showed their creativity and the community of Tockwith joined in a gold old sing song at the end!

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all the staff and children for such an amazing Christmas performance this week. To organise that number of children so seamlessly and efficiently is incredibly impressive. I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful range of performances — from The Twelve Days of Christmas and Neville having a wee! to the beautiful poetry from Year 6, as well as the fantastic dancing and choreography throughout.

It was truly lovely to see all the children’s smiling faces, and they were certainly living life in all its fullness during the performances. All the hard work that goes into producing events like this is very much appreciated. Mrs Stubbs, School Governor.

Y3/4 Stump Cross Tavern Trip

Year 3 and 4 have had an exciting half term delving deep into their Geography topic on volcanoes and the Earth’s structure. To bring their learning to life, the pupils worked hard to design and create their own volcano models, using a mix of creative materials and scientific knowledge. They particularly enjoyed watching their volcanoes “erupt” during a fun and messy experiment that showed how pressure builds up beneath the Earth’s surface!

As part of their topic, the classes also visited Stump Cross Caverns, where they were able to explore underground caves and see stunning rock formations up close. The children were fascinated to learn about how stalactites and stalagmites form over thousands of years and how the caverns link to the wider story of our planet’s geology.

Y4 Residential

On Wednesday, our Y4 class have travelled to Co Durham for their 3 day residential. On arrival, after putting their bags into their tents and investigating the site, the children had their packed lunches. After this the children set off on a beautiful walk, exploring the surrounding countryside.Mr Reeve travelled down to spend the first day with the children and he loved seeing them all enjoy themselves and enjoy the outside. Across the three days, activities included climbing up a large boulder and then zip lining down – which was a highlight, but then paddleboarding on the lake was also fantastic! Children had an incredible time and won’t forget this adventure! The children arrived back happy, tired and a little dirty but with memories to last a lifetime! Many thanks to Miss Stanton, Mrs Slack and Mrs Maclennan for accompanying the children on this trip, and also to Wilderness Outdoor Education for making the trip so enjoyable.

Brownlee Triathlon

On Friday 13^th June, children in Y4 travelled to Harrogate Leisure Centre to take part in the Brownlee Foundation Triathlon. The event involved children swimming approximately 50m in total (around three sides of a swimming pool), cycling 800m on grass and running 300m at the sports centre.

The event was amazing and the children had a great time. The sun shone throughout and a groups of happy, tired children returned with their triathlon medals!

Y3/4 Stone Age Day!

Children in Y3 and 4 took part in a Stone Age day as part of their current topic. Children and staff came to school dressed in stone age clothes and spent the day doing fun activities! The children made some stone age jewellery, played hunters and gatherers and cooked on a fire. The children had a great day and it was so great to see everyone dressed up!

Singing at York Minster!

Children in Y3 and Y4 have spent the last few weeks singing with Miss Bels from York Minster. After a month of practice, the children travelled to York Minster to take part in their Mothering Sunday service. It was amazing to sing in such a beautiful place!
